Today marks an important milestone in the development of rockwealth and Evidence-Based Advisers with the opening of rockwealth Leeds, our first office in Yorkshire.
The new Leeds operation will be managed by Brandon Lamam, who joins us from Quilter. Brandon, who turned 30 on Saturday, says setting up his own financial planning business with a brand that reflects his personal and professional values was just the opportunity he was looking for.
“I’m so excited that rockwealth Leeds is up and running. I’ve seen what rockwealth has achieved in other parts of the country and I really wanted to bring its unique offering to Yorkshire,” he says.
“We’re a firm that has a reputation for delivering the highest quality advice and we put clients at the centre of everything we do.
“We’re evidence-based, and that’s definitely the way the profession is going. We also charge fixed fees, which are so much fairer than percentage fees. It’s not right that clients should have to subsidise other clients just because they’ve built a large portfolio.”
Inspired by his upbringing
Brandon was born in Malaysia and came to England at the age of seven. He says his personal circumstances have helped inspire him to launch rockwealth Leeds.
“My mum brought us to England to give us a better life. It was hard at first, but she just got on with it and never complained. She was a real example to me. My professional motivation has largely come from those experiences.”
Brandon starts with a small group of clients from his last job. So is he concerned about starting a business in the current economic situation?
“No, I’m not,” he says. “People are seeking clarity about their money at the moment. They want the peace of mind that comes with knowing that they’re doing everything they can to achieve their goals. That’s what evidence-based financial planning provides.
Challenging year
“2022 has been a challenging year, but the people who’ve come out of it relatively unscathed are those those who had a plan and an efficient, diversified portfolio.
“We don’t know when the next crisis will come, or what will cause it, but there will definitely be one. The time to prepare for it is now. Firms like rockwealth Leeds are well placed to give people the clarity they need.”
